Struggling to lose weight?
Sometimes the weight just won’t shift and it’s not always easy to find out why. There are many dietary mistakes that you can make without even realising:
You skip meals – Many people skip meals when dieting thinking they will lose weight quicker. In fact this can make it harder to lose weight as it can lower your metabolism. With a well adjusted band your portions will be small so you need your 3 meals a day to get all the nutrients in your body needs
You eat the same things over and over – This can make your diet boring as well as not giving your body all the nutrients it may need
You don’t keep track of Alcohol – most people keep track of the food they are eating religiously - don’t forget to add in alcohol. The cals can really add up without you even thinking about it
You eat too quickly – You may miss the signal you are full and overeat. You MUST eat slowly with the band – remember to follow the 20+ rule, to keep nasty symptoms and other possible complications at bay
You think you can eat whatever you want after exercise – not true!
You think veggie option is best – but that’s not always the case - cheese for example is a staple of a vegetarian diet but is very high in calories
You ditch your healthy eating plan if you have a bad day - get back on track, a bad day, so what it happens, start again tomorrow!
You eat past 20 minutes – this means you can eat more
You don’t eat enough protein – this helps you feel full for longer - aim for 60g minimal a day
You always clean you plate – if you are full then learn to stop and leave the rest or reduce your portions
You go food shopping on an empty stomach – you will end up filling your trolley with stodgy foods
You eat on the run – chew slowly and allow yourself to feel satisfied. Take time for your meals, sit at the table and savour every mouthful, you should still take time to enjoy your food even with a gastric band
You don’t think you need to exercise if you are losing weight – you do, there are many other benefits of exercise as well as boosting your weight loss, building muscle & helping with loose skin
You don’t learn from diet lapses – If you can identify the reason for overindulging you can avoid it the next time. Don’t let a lapse turn into an excuse for giving up altogether
Are the weekends letting you down - I know you still need to have a life but it really is about balance, so still have fun but see if there are any changes that could be made to your weekend to help you continue to make progress
You don’t think small changes get big results - Then think again! it’s the little things that will all add up to a bigger weight loss in the end - be consistent and keep going!
