I’ve felt really emotional since I saw you on Monday and I’ve been trying to find the right words for this message.  I hope this gives hope to anyone that may stumble across it and it really reinforces to you how special you really are - thank you!! 

 

 

I’ve put a very rarely shared before picture here, I think it’s needed.  I remember the first time I met you - I was a failed gastric bypass patient (regained 10 stone after having my two babies very close together). I’d had a gastric band fitted to help with my regain, Covid hit a month later so couldn’t have my first fill.  The years passed without any support due to the Covid restrictions at the time and I ended up weighing more than when I first had the band fitted.  

 

 

I had totally lost confidence in my ability to ever loose the weight again and I had lost confidence in my decision to have the band fitted.  I weighed over 24 stone at this point and seriously struggling with my mental health.  

 

 

I met you in Leeds following several failed fill attempts by other band nurses and also a fill by guided CT.  You hugged me before I even said a word because I’m sure you saw my pain and frustration that day without me saying anything.  I still remember the exact words you said to me and after a successful fill appointment, I went away with the hope and belief that the band can and will work as a tool for me.  You saw something in me that I didn’t know was there and you believed in me - that was so powerful. 

 

 

Fast forward a few years, I’ve reached a goal weight I did not believe was possible (and maintained) and a size 10 Burberry Mac was too big!!! I’ve never been a size 10 in my life.  I’m now going in the next few weeks to have skin removal surgery which is just mind blowing to me.  Following having all the fluid removed I’ve realised I needed an assessment much sooner. 

 

 

To anyone who may read this and has a band in place - book an assessment now!! Nic really worked with me to find my sweet spot where the band really does do its job and works with you!  The support is invaluable and really needed just to ensure you are using your tool correctly - I was constantly working against mine due to lack of understanding.  

 

 

I’ve reached a place I didn’t think was possible, even after my de-fill I’m making healthy choices and actually enjoying this new place I find myself in - which is just at peace (to those that have fought that mental food battle will completely understand how much that means)!
