Its all about the needle
The needles I use for adjusting gastric bands looks like any regular hypodermic needle. Please don't be fooled, these are specialist non coring port needles that allow me to access your port safely protecting the longevity of your band
If your band is accessed using a coring needle (which most needles are) you will run the risk of band leakage.
Why is this?
So if a regular coring needle is inserted through the port membrane and removed this will core. Meaning a small slither of the membrane will remain in the centre of the needle leaving a small hole within your port membrane. This will lead to fluid leaking out of your band.
A non-coring needle will not core or cause a hole in the port membrane when inserted and removed protecting your band and its function.
So please always make sure you are seeking a reputable provider for your aftercare. If not sure ask them what needles they use! In appearance they look very similar.
Lets protect them bands!
