Increasing Activity

Having a gastric band in place is great for helping you control your dietary intake and hunger.  But by doing more exercise can make it easier to lose weight

It can help you burn calories, tone up, improve both physical and mental health and just make you feel better overall by improving sleep, helping your joints and improving cardiac health

You can start slowly by simply walking more - counting your steps is a good way to track your progress and ensure you are building on what you are doing and moving forward.

Try our top tips to help you get more active:

  • Plan the days you are going to exercise and stick to it. Put it in your diary and treat it like a meeting
  • Find a training partner – going with a friend will help you stick at it
  • Do something you enjoy! It should be fun not a chore – try netball, football, running clubs, tennis – there is so much more than just the gym
  • Build up your fitness levels – exercise for longer or at a higher intensity as you get fitter
  • Try something new – ice skating, dancing, boot camps, trampolining
  • Work hard during your sessions or it’s not worth doing them – stay safe though
  • Get out on your bike or boost those steps when the weather is good
  • If you like indoor activity try classes, swimming, the gym, badminton
  • If you like outdoors try waking, running, cycling, rowing, boot camps
  • If you prefer being in on your own try exercise DVD’, exercise bikes, YouTube videos
  • Get out with the children, take a ball the park and have fun

The important thing is that you are doing some form of regular exercise and the trick is to find something you enjoy as you are more likely to stick at it

Happy moving!
